of the elderly. The amount of assistance payable per month of Old Age Living Allowance is $4,195.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The applicant must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>be aged 65 or above;<\/li>\n<li>have been a Hong Kong resident for at least seven years and have resided in Hong Kong continuously for at least one year immediately before the date of application (see Note below);<\/li>\n<li>not be in receipt of any other allowance under the Social Security Allowance Scheme or assistance under the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance Scheme;<\/li>\n<li>continue to reside in Hong Kong during receipt of payment;<\/li>\n<li>not be detained in legal custody or admitted to a penal institution; and<\/li>\n<li>not have monthly income and assets exceeding the prescribed limits as set out below:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"213\">\u00a0<\/td>\n<td width=\"213\">Single person<\/td>\n<td width=\"213\">Married couple<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"213\">Total income per month<\/td>\n<td width=\"213\">$10,710<\/td>\n<td width=\"213\">$16,330<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"213\">Total assets value<\/td>\n<td width=\"213\">$401,000<\/td>\n<td width=\"213\">$608,000<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIncome\u201d includes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>wages from employment;<\/li>\n<li>income from handiwork, business, etc. (including salaries, wages, monthly commissions or bonuses, and monthly income from self-employment);<\/li>\n<li>retirement benefits\/pensions;<\/li>\n<li>net income from rentals collected; and<\/li>\n<li>payout from the annuity scheme(s).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Contributions from family members, relatives or friends, and monthly payments received under the Reverse Mortgage Programme (RMP) (only applicable to the RMP where the property as collateral is an owner-occupied property) and the Policy Reverse Mortgage Programme are excluded, but any unspent and accumulated savings\/cash in hand is treated as part of the applicant\u2019s \u201cassets\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAssets\u201d include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>land and other non-owner occupied properties;<\/li>\n<li>cash in hand;<\/li>\n<li>bank savings;<\/li>\n<li>investments in shares and stocks (including bonds, trust funds and accrued retirement benefits);<\/li>\n<li>vehicles for commercial use\/investment (e.g. taxi or public light bus) and their business licences, and<\/li>\n<li>gold bars, gold coins, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Owner-occupied property, a columbarium niche for self-use in future, and the cash value of insurance schemes are excluded. However, only the value of one residential property which is the applicant\u2019s principal place of residence in Hong Kong is disregarded.
