70 or above to meet special needs arising from old age. The amount of assistance payable per month of Old Age Allowance is HK$1,620.<\/p>\n<p>The Scheme is non-means-tested.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The applicant must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>be aged 70 or above;<\/li>\n<li>have been a Hong Kong resident for at least seven years and have resided in Hong Kong <strong>continuously<\/strong> for at least one year immediately before the date of application (see Note below);<\/li>\n<li>not be in receipt of any other allowance under the Social Security Allowance Scheme or assistance under the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance Scheme;<\/li>\n<li>continue to reside in Hong Kong during receipt of payment; and<\/li>\n<li>not be detained in legal custody or admitted to a penal institution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Continuously<\/strong>\u00a0means not having resided outside Hong Kong for more than 90 days during that one-year period.<\/p>\n<p>Consideration can be given to disregarding absences arising from paid work or medical treatment outside Hong Kong during the one-year period, subject to the availability of sufficient documentary proof and a valid reason.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How can I apply for the Old Age Allowance?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The applicant or his\/her relative\/friend can make an application for the Old Age Allowance directly to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swd.gov.hk\/storage\/asset\/section\/246\/en\/SSFUe_20230220.pdf\">social security field unit<\/a> near to his\/her place of residence by phone, by fax, by e-mail, by post, by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sssof.swd.gov.hk\/eForm\/eApplySSA\/Start?lang=en_US\">online form<\/a> or in person.<\/li>\n<li>An application may also be made through a referral to the Social Welfare Department by another government department or a non-governmental organisation.<\/li>\n<li>The applicant can also download the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swd.gov.hk\/storage\/asset\/section\/246\/en\/SSFUe_20230220.pdf\">Social Security Allowance Application Form<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swd.gov.hk\/oala\/doc\/2023\/Online%20SWD307%20SSA%20Application%20Form_(Rev.)(9_2023).pdf\">Application for Social Security Allowance Guidance Notes<\/a>\u201d and return the completed application form together with photocopies of relevant supporting documents to the social security field unit by post or in person.<\/li>\n<li>As soon as the application is received, an officer of the Social Welfare Department will make arrangements for an interview with the applicant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more details on the Old Age Allowance, please visit the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.swd.gov.hk\/en\/index\/site_pubsvc\/page_socsecu\/sub_ssallowance\/\">Social Welfare Department\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Old Age Allowance (fruit money) is a kind of Social Security Allowance Scheme which is available for Hong Kong residents who are at least 70 years old.
